To Save A Mind

To be honest, I really don't get it.
I don't get this... following the process, getting your dream jobs, earning big money thing.
I come from a family that places rather huge hopes on me...
Not that I'm affected though, I don't really care

What worries me however, is the fact that all they push on me, are all jobs that society deems as 'good'. Like doctors, lawyers and others. I interrupted my mother halfway to test her.
I said: 'I actually... am a bit interested in wildlife'
She never addressed my reply.

Maybe its just my family.
Maybe its just me.

To me, passion and dreams outweigh such social norms.
I have never, ever wanted to submit to such norms.

To Unload Ze Mind

One.
I never ever understood the reason for continual progress

Two.
I never ever understood why humans have to make ourselves so advance, at the expense of the environment

Three.
I never agreed on things like 'First Impression', kills chances

Four.
I find 'economy' completely stupid, the whole world seems to live just to support it.

Five.
Failure makes you sad? 'Being left out' feels worse.

Six.
Societal Norms, Prejudices (Same Thing)

Seventy-Eight.
I hate logical structures, they hinder creativity

Four thousand, five hundred and forty
I yearn for a break

Dystopia Part II (finally)

Sorry people, finally got time off (or the will to blog).

-The snail finally reached my doorstep-

Honestly, I see bits of dystopian culture infiltrated the world we live in today.
Examples include authoritarian and bureaucracy. These are just examples of people being controlled by the government and in some cases, might get very extreme. This instances actually reflect hints of dystopian culture.

Honestly, I do not see any way to solve this problem, its just.... so based on human nature.
Human's domination instincts, greed, all these instincts is what I believe breeds dystopian culture.
These factors are not easily changeable and varies from person to person. as such, it will not be very easy to control.

So much for now, SLEEP *zombie face*

Dystopia Part I

Yes, I have been immersed in dystopia culture.
Yes, I AM BEING AFFECTED.

Brief background knowledge:
Dystopia is a futuristic society that has degraded into a repressive and controlled state, usually characterised by a totalitarian or utilitarian government.

Through the past 2 days of Sabbaticals, I have been watching movies that reflect dystopian societies. Some movies of such include Serenity, Minority Report.

Something these films share in common:
It always seems like a perfect world... or at least thats what it is generally perceived to be. However, there will be a significantly huge group who are negatively affected by the state of ruling or living. This group will usually fight against the odds, and in movies(of course) the determination of this group will allow them to rise against such odds and to save the world.

I feel that when we are discussing utopian and dystopian societies, we will find certain overlaps between these 2 supposed 'extremes'.

For example, in a utopian society, we may have extremely low crime rate, but this can only be possible if appropriate measures are undertaken and these may affect people's privacies. This is seen in Minority Report, where the extremely low crime rate is made possible by psychic predictions and public iris scanners.

Instead, I prefer to refer to a utopian society as one of complete impossibility, as I feel that such a society, will disagree with natural human behaviours and will conflict with a dystopian society.

PART II coming up in the speed of.............................................. the snail in my garden.

Signing off,

Education- The Purpose

Studying is defined as a personal effort to gain knowledge.
Studying, in its most ideal, should be a session where both teacher and students are willingly and should show enthusiasm in both parties.
Studying, should at least require students to be aware of its purpose and for them to be able to appreciate and have a certain level of commitment in it.
But how many actually do that?

Nowadays, we see the purpose of studying fading away.
Of course knowledge still gets past down, but is it as efficient as before?
How many of us, still go to school everyday just for its sake?
What do students nowadays study for?
For the sake of getting knowledge?
Seems more for exams and tests for me.

People may argue that students nowadays are losing interest in studying and hence this education scheme will set them back on track and to 'motivate' them.
With the introduction of more and more forms of online entertainment appearing, people can be seen as losing interest in all other matters.

In my recent attachment to a school in Brisbane, I realised that the school offered subject choices for students, allowing them to choose their subjects like business, art, music, drama or electronics. This is based on their belief that different people have different strengths and they allow them to choose an area of their interest.

Is this anymore helpful?

Regardless, I feel that the interest in learning for students will continue to decrease.

Themed Post- Jokes

First of my themed posts, and the topic will be on jokes.

I categorize jokes into 2 different groups:
  1. Plain jokes (lame jokes, harmless jokes)
  2. Bad jokes (jokes that show racism, flaming people, mocking people)
Nevertheless, jokes are inevitably part of our lives.
They serve important purposes, like providing comic relief in certain tense situations.
BUT
Jokes gone overboard are a different matter altogether.

Plain jokes can lighten the mood of people around you, create topics for discussion or just to increase morale.
On the other hand, bad jokes not only show one's insensitivity, but also causes hurt and discomfort in certain groups of people.

This topic may seem like a very shallow topic, but through this few years in secondary school, I find myself seeing more of such bad jokes, some of which go completely overboard, resulting in angry teachers, angry students and angry birds.

I admit that I too, tell bad jokes at certain times. And I have seen the consequences. Scary.
But through this experiences, I am beginning to resolve these problems.
Firstly, I feel that people should develop a certain 'acceptance' to jokes and not snap just because an occasional bad joke is targeted at you. Keeping an open mind would most certainly help.
Secondly, everyone should think (for a brief moment) before telling a joke, access the possible consequences. Even for a second, this helps a lot.
Lastly, one should NEVER, EVER bring a joke overboard. ( saying the same mocking statement over and over again is an example)

With April Fool's Day around the corner, I hope everyone will NOT make it an All Sulk Day.

Joke sensibly,
Johnny Phua

The First Post

Here begins the post that is usually entitled: 'Welcome'.
The same post where all budding bloggers will start introducing their brand new blog and themselves.
So let me follow the 'norm' and start talking about this blog.

This blog will be used mainly for studies and to share views on current affairs but some random fun facts will appear over time.
However, if you want to see any other type of blog posts, you might want to head over to my 'main' blog where I post my random (and casual) entries.

One thing to note when reading in my blog is that I sometimes might use a very different (and weird) style of writing, and please feel free to post your consoling complain
ts when you find my writing style making posts difficult to read/understand.

Regarding the issue about frequent blogging, I am unable to guarantee that I will be very active on all my blogs. (Due to certain reasons preferred not to be disclosed)

Anyway, I hope you will enjoy reading this blog, as I start to post up my discussions on topics.

Yay,
John Phua
